Diamond Trade Company’s CEO Varda Shine Officially Opens Israel Diamond Week

Varda Shine, Chief Executive Officer of the Diamond Trading Company (DTC), and Yair Sahar, President of the Israel Diamond Exchange (IDE), have cut the ribbon in a ceremony to mark the official opening of Israel Diamond Week. Hundreds of Israeli diamantaires as well as visitors from diamond centers across the globe were present to witness this historic event.

Yair Sahar opened the ceremony, welcoming the guests from all over the world. Sahar detailed some of the efforts made by the Israeli bourse to strengthen the Israeli Diamond Industry. He explained the fundamental changes that the diamond sector had undergone since 2008, noting that while countries and banks had collapsed, the diamond industry had stood firm. “We’ll be doing a lot of business this week. 2013 will be a very special year with a great deal of business conducted. The Israel Diamond Week marks a historic moment, and this week will happen again year after year,” said Sahar.

Varda Shine expressed her pleasure in opening the Israel Diamond Week. “It is a great pleasure to be here and to witness this event. It is very pleasing to be here as a representative of De Beers, but also as an Israeli,” said Shine. She noted the importance of Israel in the diamond world, and noted that the level of innovation in the diamond industry in Israel doesn’t exist in other places.

Moti Ganz, Chairman of the Israel Diamond Institute, which is sponsoring the Israel Diamond Week, spoke of the assistance that the IDI can provide to Israeli diamond companies, whether it be events, creative ideas or other practical assistance. “I would like to wish success to all the Israeli companies here at Israel Diamond Week. I am sure there will be lots of similar events in the future,” said Ganz.

Bumi Traub, President of the Israel Diamond Manufacturers Association, wished all participants success as well as a happy Passover holiday, since this Jewish holiday commences as Diamond Week ends. “I have no doubt that this event will be one that will strengthen the Israeli Diamond Industry. When so much energy is invested, it is sure to be a success.”

Mordechai (Motti) Fluk, Senior Vice-President of the Israel Diamond Exchange and head of the organizing committee of the Israel Diamond Week, wished everyone success and happy holidays.
