Filipino doctor pioneers Israeli skin tightening tech in PH

ISRAEL IS world-renowned for its impeccable skills and technology in surveillance and intelligence gathering. The range of its intelligence processing systems is quite varied—from military to industrial applications, from research and development to practical solutions.

It has even delved into the study of herbs—as specified in the Bible (involving aromatic oils of plants growing in extreme weather conditions in regions between the Judaean desert and the Dead Sea)—in the hope of using these as complementary treatment for skin diseases like psoriasis.

Among its endeavors is the development of advanced equipment.

Filipina medical doctor Amy Patdu, a skin specialist based in Alabang, Muntinlupa City, has been authorized to use the most advanced Israeli equipment on skin tightening, skin rejuvenation, wrinkle reduction, collagen renewal, acne clearance as well as using herbs as complementary treatment for psoriasis and other skin diseases (under the brand name Kedem products).

Patdu has been training fellow doctors on the use of the equipment as she pioneered the use of Endymed’s 3Deep Radiation Frequency technology in the country

The skin-tightening procedure, which generates the sensation of being massaged, is painless and noninvasive.

Like a mat

Patdu likens the skin to a mat that could return to its original suppleness with the help of her equipment, which she explains can help boost the formation of collagen. The heat penetrates deeper into the second layer of the skin.

The equipment is exclusively distributed by Kital Philippines, which also handles state-of-the-art telecommunications systems and top-of-the-line laser-based diagnostic equipment for medical application.

For those who have previously had cancers, Patdu requires the permission of the attending physician. She says, however, that radio frequency (RF) energy has a minimal amount of radiation. The intensity of RF in the equipment only goes up to the layer of the skin.

Patdu says: “RF has very minimal amounts of radiation. This is different from the RF being used for surgery. This one is low. This is only indicated for the skin. But other radio frequencies you can use for surgical purposes.”

Second layer of skin

She also stresses that the RF reaches up to the second layer of the skin.

“Other machines couldn’t penetrate the second layer—the derma layer of the skin.” She explains that another machine does what the RF equipment could do, but that “it is very, very painful as all the energy goes to one generator so everything is forced. That’s why they use a cooling agent or anesthesia.”

Normally, her clients for facial tightening range in age from 35 to above 70.

Patdu also uses the Light Heat Energy (LHE) with her Mistral equipment—a more advanced technology than IPL (intense pulsed light) lasers for pigmentation. LHE works on the principle of selective photothermolysis, but uniquely utilizes both light and heat energy to achieve maximum efficiency. Mistral emits a low and safe wave of light to reverse sun damage and remove lesions like age spots and spider veins.

Patdu explains that by initiating a natural wound healing process, LHE causes the rebuilding and restructuring of new collagen under the outer layer of the skin. This effectively lightens the skin and guarantees the elimination of fine lines and wrinkles, leaving patients with brighter, more vibrant skin.

Patdu was sent to Israel by Kital Philippines in April 2011 for training on the use of its equipment.

Patdu—who wouldn’t admit her age but could pass off for someone in her late 20s—projects a healthy glow, which she said is due to the Mistral technology and her habit of cleaning her skin, applying moisturizers and sunblock, and a healthy lifestyle, too, with daily 30-minute treadmill (or three kilometers), lots of fluids and vegetables and fruits. “My lifestyle helps my skin,” she says with a smile.

She concludes: “I combine my Endymed Pro with the Mistral to rejuvenate my skin. That one evens out my skin tone. After doing the Mistral, even without makeup, I look like I have glowing skin. With the Mistral, it’s like you always have makeup on.”
