Global Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Market Report 2013 – 2018: Israel and USA to be Maximum Revenue Generators

In today’s context Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) play an important role in varied missions such as military attacks, border surveillance, mapping, surveying, weather determination and regional law enforcements. This technology has grown at a rapid pace and production companies are emerging across the globe.

UAVs have developed from radio controlled model airplanes to urbane aircraft that today play a unique role in many public missions and also have the potential to do so in civilian situations.

According to industry estimates, UAV operations will increase manifold in a variety of key military and civil areas. In the US an estimated 50 companies, universities, and government organizations are developing over 150 different unmanned aircraft designs. From an operational, infrastructure and safety perspective, this presents a number of challenges due to the diversity of aircraft, control stations, levels of autonomy, and communications methods. UAV’s have a wide spectrum of size, endurance, and performance characteristics, often different from manned aircraft.

The development of sophisticated navigation and communications technologies, and the increase in armed forces telecommunications satellite bandwidth, have made remote operation of UAVs more realistic. The wars fought in Iraq and Afghanistan have also increased the demand for UAVs, as identification of targets among civilian populations required persistent surveillance. Manned systems could accomplish many if not all of the same goals. But unmanned systems reduce the risk to soldiers by providing a sophisticated stand-off capability that supports intelligence, command and control, targeting, and weapons delivery. These systems also improve situational alertness and reduce many of the poignant hazards inherent in air and ground combat, thus decreasing the likelihood of causing civilian non-combatant casualties. UAVs have gained favor as an effective way to reduce risk to combat troops, and to conduct missions in areas that can be difficult to access or otherwise considered too high-risk for manned aircraft or personnel on the ground.

Key Findings of the Report:

– The global UAV market size can be expected to grow to $8,351.11 million by 2018. – (HALE/MALE/SUAV) Market has the highest business potential throughout the study period. – Among the countries manufacturing UAVs, the USA and Israel will be the maximum revenue generators. – SPUAV (Solar Powered Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) will be one of the major technological advances in the near future. – General Atomics Aeronautical Systems is the leader in UAV market with 18.78% of the market share.

The global UAV market is currently valued at $7,098.6 million.

The Air Forces of every country would thrive to showcase their operational prowess of UAVs. According to US Air Force, ten types of UAVs were used in ‘Operation Iraqi Freedom’. These UAVs were able to perform traditional intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance as well as a range of more novel strategic combat. UAV’s most envied attribute is persistence. Civilian and security personnel can use portable UAVs to scan their areas of operations, enabling them to achieve tactical revelation.

This range of UAV sizes provides a wide gamut of potential uses. The market can be estimated to grow at 3.30% during the period of 2013 to 2018.
