BRASILIA, Brazil, March 15 (UPI) — The Brazilian air force has selected Israel Aerospace Industries to produce two large aircraft to replace KC-137 transport and refueling aircraft. The choice of IAI by Brazil’s Air Force Command completes the selection process for the KC-X2 program.
Work under the program will involve converting two Boeing 767-300ER commercial aircraft into military platforms in accordance with Brazilian air force requirements for refueling operations, strategic troop and cargo transport and medical evacuation.
“The KC-X2 Project … sought the best solutions on the market, considering technical and operational requirements, logistics, industrial and commercial and technological compensation for the Brazilian state,” the service said.
The KC-137s being replaced were manufactured in the 1960s and incorporated into the Brazilian air force in 1986.
